![]() Whatever its provenance, the perennial favorite is traditionally made with a chocolate sponge cake batter. Others say Josef Keller, a pastry chef in Bad Godesberg, penned the world’s first Black Forest cake recipe in 1915. ![]() Some corners of the internet claim the German dessert, also called Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, has been around since at least the 16th century-an unlikely theory since chocolate wasn’t readily available in Germany until the early 1600s, and at the time was primarily used as a medicine. It’s best to eat it the same day as it is made – how could you resist? – but if you need to make the cake in advance, chill it in the fridge for up to 24 hours and allow to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving. As with most recipes steeped in history (and booze), there are a few Black Forest cake origin stories. Keep the cake cool or chill until ready to serve. Tip almost all the remaining grated chocolate into the centre and sprinkle the rest over the rosettes.ĭecorate with fresh cherries if you have some. Spoon the remaining cream into a piping bag fitted with a large, plain nozzle and pipe rosettes around the edge of the cake. Using the flat side of a palette knife, spread about three tablespoons of the cream over the top of the cake, taking it all the way to the edge. Whip the remaining 200ml/8fl oz of the cream with an electric hand-whisk until soft peaks form. Place the final sponge on top, with its top surface facing upwards. You should end up with three layers of sponge, cherries, cream and chocolate. Top with another sponge and repeat the layers twice more. Sprinkle with a little of the grated chocolate. There is no need to spread it out, but try to keep the spoonfuls evenly spaced over the cake. Using a couple of pudding spoons, dollop about a third of the whipped cream gently on top of the cherry mixture. Transfer one of the sponges (with the cherry topping) very carefully to a cake stand or plate – slide a cake tin base under the sponge to help you. Whip 300ml/10fl oz of the cream with an electric hand-whisk until soft peaks form. Make sure that the sponge without the cherry topping is from the top half of a cake. Sprinkle the cherry brandy over the chocolate sponges, then spread three of them with the sour cherry mixture and leave to cool. ![]() Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring, until the jam has melted and the cherries are beginning to swell. Take off the lining paper and leave the cakes to cool. It also checks your network connections, Instant Messages, webmail and internet browsing. Can check your email, P2P clients like Utorrent or limewire while you are downloading. Also the system overall memory only shot up to about 400mb compared to AVG which would sometimes shoot up to over 500mb with the same settings and while I firefox is up with 3 tabs and one of the sites being flash heavy.I also like the real time virus check that avast offers. Sometimes it is hard to do anything else. With Avast I haven't seen it go beyond 79% and that is while having firefox 3 up with 3 tabs, one of them being a flash heavy tab. So that means that I have a single processor that many anti-virus programs just eat up cpu cycles and pushes it to 100% usage easily. I have a 2.66ghz Intel Celeron Pentium 4. The pros is that it does have a low footprint even when scanning. This means avast wont use your hard drive more than it needs thus making your computer usage alot faster compared to situation when antivirus needs to scan your hard drive when you use it (unless you have good ssd).I have installed avast to more than 6 computers and only one had troubles, but those were hardware related problems (adaptec raid card didnt work well with motherboard).I give 4 because they didn´t give me any real support, even if your software is freeware you should at least be intrested what is wrong with it. When i first started to use avast, norton or f-secure didnt have this feature. So f-secure was just taking my computers juice for nothing. One of my favorite features is avast screensaver which scans your hd:s when computer is on screensaver. Also avast found few trojans that f-secure didn´t found. F-secure was just terrible (deleted outlooks inbox when it had one virus). Interface can be changed btw.In short Avast! is one of the best antivirus i have used. It is used in Firefox, Chrome and Opera, works without changing the certificates and the security parameters and certificates are verified by the browser itself, including checks for untrusted or revoked certificates. This review is for 4.8 stable versionEvery antivirus has it´s cons and pro´s, but when you get antivirus for free you can´t really complain things like user interface if it can do what you want. ![]() WebShield HTTPS Scanning – Avast has introduced a new method of HTTPs scanning, which now offers more protection from infected sites. Is there anything we can do to reduce the rate of medical error – a rate that doesn’t seem to be much improved from decades past? Dr. Virtually all central line infections could be avoided if doctors and nurses followed the simple five-step procedure for putting in a central line, but studies show that at least one-third of the time, one of the steps gets skipped. So-called “line infections” – easily preventable bacterial contamination of IV lines – affect eighty thousand patients a year in the United States and are fatal between five and twenty-eight percent of the time. For every patient in an Intensive Care Unit, doctors and nurses perform an average of 178 actions a day – and commit an average of one to two mistakes per day in their treatment. But despite this enhanced training, knowledge and expertise, doctors and other medical professionals continue to commit an astonishing number of routine medical errors. Today’s doctors are orders of magnitude better-trained and better-educated than their counterparts from a century ago. Now you need a college degree, a four-year medical degree, an additional three to seven years of residency training (where you work eighty plus hours a week in a clinical setting), and, in recent years, many young doctors have started capping off their formal training with a one- to three-year fellowship. At the beginning of the twentieth century, you only had to have a high-school diploma and a one-year medical degree if you wanted to be a doctor. ![]() How have our doctors changed in response to the changes in medicine?
